SAVE STATION 19

Station 19 follows the lives and loves of Seattle’s bravest firefighters. Starring a diverse group of actors whose characters reflect the lived experiences of marginalized communities around the world, Station 19 has only grown in popularity during its six seasons, reaching millions of viewers each week. With its longstanding dedication to social justice, Station 19 gives voice to the voiceless. Throughout its six seasons, the show explored important topics including police brutality, transphobia, homelessness, mental illness, addiction, abuse, xenophobia, racism, cultural diversity, abortion, human trafficking, and cultural diversity. Thanks to its cast of BIPOC and LGTBQ+ identifying characters, Station 19 fosters empathy and awareness week after week, making it an integral part of the television landscape.

On December 8, 2023, ABC abruptly announced that the upcoming seventh season of Station 19 would be the last for the network’s #1 drama. The news came as a shock to the fans, cast, and crew members, and the fan base around the world immediately mobilized, working towards a singular goal: convince the network to reverse its decision.

THIS IS WHY IT MATTERS!

In the six seasons that it has been on the air, Station 19 has not shied away from shining a spotlight on complex and sensitive social issues such as racism, reproductive rights and sexual assault. Time and time again, Station 19 dared to give voice to the disquieting effects of conditions that normally stay hidden such as addiction, suicidal thoughts and PTSD. By doing so, Station 19 has forged a powerful connection with its audience.

Connection. That’s what an audience looks for in a television series.

Connection. To find the parts and pieces of their lives that aren’t as commonly represented or talked about; to see their stories lived out in others.

Connection. To realise that they aren’t completely alone in their experiences, their thoughts and their feelings; to learn that perhaps there are other options, other choices and other paths that they can choose.

This is why Station 19 matters to its audience, why it has always mattered and will always continue to matter.
